"How many roads must a man walk down. Before you call him a man?"
How many years must a research take, before you pay it for use.
We engineering researchers in every area, working to solve the problem. However, at last, how many of this research ends up in the laboratory or became a reference on the paper.
Luckily, I and Kat were invited to visit Canon's medical research center in Cambridge. Before the meeting, Doc. Hata gave us a tutorial and lecture. The lifeline of an engineering research. Used snake robot as an example. From an idea to a common use medical device, from a paper to a product. Where will a biomedical device go.
Why company. Companies are good at found what the customers need, Researchers usually doing a different way, more about innovation. However, no matter the goal is making money or making paper, they all need a valuable production. So they need to work together cause working together is the most efficient way, because today's research is no more A to Z but A + B+ ...+ Z. And what is more important, is physically work together so they can talk.
As to my PBTS topic in leading program, it is same. The water purifying system should no more lock in the small lab, we should find a chance to communicate with professional teams or companies.
Since I had decided to be a PhD, I never stop questioning myself every day. Am I qualified to be a professor at the University. Am I smart enough to be a manager in a company. I guess no one will give me an answer. But working in a company may not as miserable as I thought, actually, Canon Health Research Center is really cool, organized and motivated, most important, a good working environment. So in university or in a company, remain true to me.
